We are excited to welcome Mika'il the Muezzin, Architect & Multi-disciplinary Artist. He will be Artist in Residence at Les Complices*. With support from Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, the Swiss Arts Council.
Mika'il is a storyteller, translator and social sculptor based in South Africa. His practice-Mika’il, the Muezzin - centres around storytelling for marginalised communities and design for social impact and he aims to listen, unearth stories, and be a catalyst for translating user-experiences into spatial outcomes. Mika'il’s practice is focused on intersectionality and the outcomes of his work lies at the confluence of space making, gender, sexual & ethnic identity, and social justice. His design practice fluently blends the modalities of architecture, urbanism, storytelling, film, graphic and exhibition design, and research.
Mika'il founded a flegling collective for designers, artists and activists to tackle issues at the intersection of LGBTQIA+ identity and space called Queer.Space. The collective aims to question what inclusive and safe spaces look like for marginalised communities.
Mika'il will be in Zurich during the period of May - July. There will be events curated by Mika'il and an exhibition showing towards the end of the residency. Keep an eye out for announcements of upcoming events.
