Für das Close Viewing werden wir zusammen ein Dokumentationsvideo einer öffentlichen Intervention der Gruppe Joint mind mit dem Titel State of emergency (9 Minuten) schauen. Collen Mfazwe arbeitet mit der Gruppe Joint mind zusammen und war bei diesem Projekt die Kamerafrau. State of emergency wurde zum ersten mal an der Soweto Pride 2014 in Südafrika aufgeführt und das Dokumentationsvideo danach in Kapstadt, Norwegen und Berlin gezeigt. Die performative Intervention war eine Antwort auf ein Hate crime, das sich im Daveyton Township in Südafrika ereignet hatte, die Polizei und die Gesellschaft sollten so Aufmerksam gemacht werden auf dieses und andere Hate crimes gegen queere Personen.
Anschliessend werden wir den Film A Comedy in Six Unnatural Acts (USA, 25mins, 1975, englisch) von Jan Oxenberg aus der Cinenova Filmsammlung schauen. Es handelt sich um eine Satire über stereotypisierte Bilder von Lesben, jede Szene ist der Demontage eines Stereotyps aus unterschiedlichen Genres von Hollywoodfilmen gewidmet- der Quelle von so vielen unserer stereotypen Vorstellungen.

We are very excited about the second Close Viewing this year! Especially because Kopano Sibeko und Collen Mfazwe from South Africa are in Zürich for a Research Residency and for the Close Viewing they will talk about their artistic and activist work and share their experiences with us. We will watch State of emergency (9 minutes), a documentation of a public intervention of the group Joint mind. This public intervention first took place at Soweto pride 2014 in South Africa and the documentation was shown in Capetown, Norway and Berlin. State of emergency was a respond to a hate crime that took place in Daveyton township, it should make the community and the police pay attention to it and to other hate crimes committed against queer people.
Afterwards we will watch the film A Comedy in Six Unnatural Acts (USA, 25mins, 1975, english) by Jan Oxenberg from the cinenova collection. It is a satire on the stereotyped images of lesbians, each scene is also a take-off of a different genre of Hollywood film - the source of so many of our stereotypes.
The films and the discussion will be in english.
